Annoying

Every time... and I mean EVERY SINGLE TIME I go to the movies, they subject us to watch the average movie theater commercials.

Well, I'm sick and tired of watching this one.

Corny and annoying is an understatement.

Dear Caribbean Cinemas, please... PRETTY. PLEASE!!! STOP. PLAYING. THIS. SORRY. ASS. COMMERCIAL.

Enter the world of the CRACKberry

Back when T-Mobile was a fairly new carrier in the states (2002), I bought my first cell phone EVER. I remember getting a Motorola. I had no reception at my apartment so I went back to the store to change the phone. They gave me a cute lil Nokia. I had one signal bar inside my apartment. Didn't think much of it since I had a home phone and didn't use it much since the job I held at the time gave me a cell phone. Needless to say, reception problems at the moment weren't a biggie. And then I quit my job, which made the no-reception issue, AN ISSUE. So I canceled my contract with them after a year. Paid their cancellation fee happily and went to bed with Sprint. I LOVED sprint. I had service everywhere I went. Anywhere in the States I visited. Puerto Rico. Canada. It worked like a charm and I was totally in-love with my phone carrier.

Flash forward 8 years and here I am. Sprint's greatness stopped working in Puerto Rico. A couple friends swore by T-Mobile. I figured it had been 8 years since my really bad experience with them, so I decided to give them a second chance. Well, I don't fucking believe in second chances so I have no fucking clue as to why I decided to give T-Mobile the benefit of the doubt. I should have backed out of the transaction when they told me I only had FOURTEEN days to cancel the contract and be free of the cancellation fee. The thought crossed my mind that it was too lil time to find out if the phone/service worked. Didn't listen to my gut and now I'm paying for it.

Needless to say, after plenty consideration (and nasty cell phone related headaches), I have decided to cancel my T-mobile contract. My experience with their service is just not up to par with the amount of money they require me to pay them every month. The fact that I simply want to make an uninterrupted phone call every now and again is not an outrageous request. T-mobile will officially be $200 richer. T-MOBILE SUCKS!

Enter Boost Mobile powered by, yes, the SPRINT network. I know, I know... Why go back to "Sprint" you ask? Well, since I'm moving back to the States (and I KNOW Sprint works over there), I figured I'll take my chances with Boost Mobile here. Their EVERYTHING BLACKBERRY Plan is just amazingly cheap. Add to that that my experience in Puerto Rico with Sprint wasn't as bad as my experience with T-Mobile. So now I'm the owner of a BlackBerry Curve 8330. And yes, I know it's not the latest model, but it does come upgraded since it was just released this year for Boost Mobile with CDMA technology. IDEN no more (tho Boost's "chirping" commercials were funny). I've never been too techie regarding cell phones so this will take me a while to break in. Good thing I found this link where I got to download the 2004 edition of BlackBerry for Dummies. I'll be busy reading that for the next few days. I've heard that BlackBerry use is addictive. I guess I'll find out.

Hoping for the best here.

Moving.... Again.

So it's time to prep for my new journey... Orlando!

If you are my friend or know me, you must be thinking I'm crazy. Not for moving to Orlando , but because I keep moving. Seven months ago, I was living in New Jersey, working in Manhattan and feeling completely miserable. So I decided to move back to my country, Puerto Rico. Well, I've had five fantastic months of doing absolutely nothing and two months of pure work aggravation. What can I say... Some people should not be allowed to leave their houses. That's all Ima say 'bout that!

After careful consideration (and still pondering) I have come to the conclusion that I need to go back to the States. Although I would love, love, LOVE to stay here, it's just not an option at this moment for me. I can deal with the Summer heat. I can deal with the bad work conditions. I can deal with the morons I encounter on the highway every morning and every afternoon. I can deal with the stupidity that surrounds me every day. I can deal with not having as much money as I used to. I can deal with not living in a "city" where everything is accessible 24/7. I can even deal with the total absence of nightlife. But... you know what I can't deal with? I can't deal with not having enough cell phone signal to make phone calls whenever my lil heart desires. I can't deal with wanting to buy something online, and being declined the product because the seller won't ship here. I can't deal with being all excited about a movie that's coming out and then find out that the movie won't show here because there's no market for it. I can't deal with wanting to watch a show from CW, NBC or any other TV Network and not being allowed to because of my "geographic region". I can't deal with applying for a job, getting hired, to later find out that I'll be doing 5 other jobs in addition to the one I was hired for (its happened to me THREE times!). I can't deal with the fact that we are not allowed to stream movies from Amazon.com or Netflix (sign petition here) and who knows what other businesses. I can't deal with going to a fast food restaurant and having to wait 30 minutes for my food because the cashier and the food dispatcher have not finished their conversation about the non-happenings of last night. I can't deal with the continuous CableTV service outages.

All these might not be enough for you to make a move, but they are certainly enough for me. And even though I'm a lil scared of moving once again... I'm actually looking forward to it and see what's in store for me.

Heneiken sumthin sumthin fest

I live in a ghost town where nothing really happens. No good bars. No good places to go. DEAD night life...

But every now and again something like this happens, and everybody and their mother assists (specially if its free! lol). There was a pretty big crowd at this event and surprisingly enough, no crazy shit happened (which I'm proud of).

I am happy I got to share this experience with a good friend and SUPER EXCITED I got to see my very favorite rock band La Secta All Star play live. Last time I got to see them play was 2002! YIKES!

ABSOLUTE GREATNESS!!!

I can die happy now. Just sayin.

More of them HERE, Twittah them @lasectaallstar, LAMEbook HERE, Utube HERE

Light you up!

Approximately 11 years ago I bought a used car. It was about 10 years old, it cost me $5K and it was in perfect conditions. I was young and stupid and didn't take care of my new old car, so within a couple years, it just wanted to be put to rest. So... I sold it and moved out of the country, cause that was the plan. After "The Bastard", I owned 2 cars. Both new. I loved them both. Before moving back home I decided to have my mom buy my car for me so I'd have wheels from the second I stepped on... The Island. Well, not everything goes as planned. Tho the "Green Hornet" currently known as the "HumBug" did give me 2 months of good road times. Now he's asking to be put to rest. Problem is, that I can't. I need wheels here! So, my dear HumBug, until I get a job and save enough to get a new car, WE are gonna have to deal. So please, be somewhat good to me, and I'll pay you the same respect. Until that time comes... I'll dream of this

Recalculating

Sometimes life throws these curve balls… and I’m no baseball player!

So I’m here finally! Puerto Rico. My country. The same one I missed for years. Wondering. Wishing. Hoping. Now what?

I relocated with a game plan. Do the same type of work I did in the past. Save some money. Then… launch my company. Surprise, surprise!!! That shit ain’t gonna fly. I have been interviewing a whole lot. Landed 2 jobs and both of them I decided to not keep. Why? Because I didn’t like them. I spent four years of my life hating my job, which made me miserable and therefore made me hate my life. I understand that work is work, and also, that money is money. BUT, I had money, more than most of the people I know ever had or could dream of. I wasn’t rich, but I was comfortable financially. Personally, I’d be fine with not liking my job. I mean, who the hell actually likes HAVING to work to pay rent and bills and whatnot? But hating the place where you have to be 8 full hours… 5 times per week!?! NO THANKS!

So here I am at 32 years old, trying to figure out what to do with my “professional” life. Which part of the island to station at? What type of job market should I target? If there’s something I have plenty of, is time.

For now, I’ll just dip in the pool, browse the classifieds, tend my FarmVille and Café World, have mommy and daughter time, spoil Butters and visit friends. Until the day comes, when I have to join the all growed up club once again.

Until then…

What counts?

One of the very things I love about this island is... The people!

Yes... there are assholes and morons everywhere in the world, and Puerto Rico is no exception, BUT I will say most puertorricans (based on my experience) are very "educados" and I dare to say that 7 out of 10 will:

- Say "buen provecho"
- Say "buenas tardes/dias/noches"
- Say "gracias"
- Hold the door open for you or simply open the door just for you (To that guy at the post office who RAN to open my door cause I was caring a box... THANK YOU)
- Smile when you send a smile their way
- Offer their help without being asked

I mean, I don't think I have ever been in a town, city or country where I received such treatment, all in just one month.

And some still ask me "Why did you move back"???

Its the lil things what counts for me.

The life

Can't really ask for more. I wish I could be a bum forever.

Does it really say that?

Walking around in Old San Juan with my good friend @itsbrittbritt and HAD to stop to take a picture of this!

Me wonders... is this even legal?!?! LOL

Si yo fuera presidente...

I'd make a law where it would be MANDATORY to have at least one 6 feet all mirror in ever household. No, lady! Walking around like THIS in Old San Juan (and pretty much make everybody and their grandmothers look at you) is NOT right!

If you don't have the body for it, please... DON'T WEAR IT!

YUCK!

Fried Angels

I am surely a glutton for all things fried. And since I eat to make MY SOUL happy and my tummy quiet...

I stuffed myself with these!!!

Nothing compares to our ricas frituras. How did I live without these?!?!?

Whoa!!!!

YIKES!!! I truly hope this doesn't happen to me in my plane!
Wouldn't THAT be a bitch!

Its a BUST!

Well... Kinda.
Isn't this like the cutest ghetto sign you've ever seen? lol
Good heavens!

Will I be able to do this again next weekend? How did I come to own so much SHIT? I keep asking myself that with no other answer but the fact that its just hard for me to part from certain things.

Why do I still own a Nintendo 64?

Why do I still own a VHS player?

Why do I keep books that I know I don't like and will NEVER read?

Sigh. Well, here I am... sitting.... waiting.... as I've been waiting since 12:34pm today (it's 4:27pm right now)... with only $8 in my pocket from a steamer and an iron I sold. I suppose $8 is better than nothing...

UPDATE!
Oooh its 5:08pm and I just sold my dining room table. That makes me $40 richer. Not bad.

Well... hopefully I'll soon sell all the big furniture. That's all I really want.

Someone's garbage is always someone else's treasure...

REALLY!

Friendship

“Friendship is a term used to denote co-operative and supportive behavior between two or more people. In this sense, the term connotes a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, and affection and respect along with a degree of rendering service to friends in times of need or crisis. Friends will welcome each other's company and exhibit loyalty towards each other, often to the point of altruism. Their tastes will usually be similar and may converge, and they will share enjoyable activities. They will also engage in mutually helping behavior, such as exchange of advice and the sharing of hardship.” -Expedia

I am a loner. My experiences in life taught me to be so. In my “forming years” (from age 5 to age 17), I went to a lot of schools (8 schools in total), which made it quite difficult for me to develop deep rooted, stable friendships. It also didn’t help that I didn’t live in a “neighborhood” so there were no kids around when I was at home. All in all, I was left with me, myself and I to entertain myself. I even remember talking to imaginary friends when I was little. You work with what you have… right? But even though I am a loner (and perfectly comfortable being one), I am a human being, and I sometimes do need support. I take friendship VERY seriously and the feelings and actions that this simple word implies are sacred to me.

Throughout the years I’ve heard the word “friend” being tossed around loosely. We live in such a selfish, superficial and materialistic world that it seems like the definition of “friendship” has lost its real meaning. It is real odd to me to see people say “my friend bob…” or “I’m going to this bar with a couple friends”, yet they don’t really know each other, and probably will flee the scene in a moment of need. Same pushes me to believe that just because you know 20 people you can hang out and socialize with, doesn’t make them your “friends”. They are hang out buds, or acquaintances. It makes me laugh how some people love to think they have tons of friends, when the reality of it all is that… well… they probably don’t.

I have come to realize there is only one way to find out if those you call your “friends” are the type of friends who are worthy of that “label”. A tough situation in life is pretty much all you need to see and know who your real friends are. That one moment when you really need a hand. A shoulder to cry on. An ear to listen. An extra pair of hands to lift. It is then when most disappear and there are only a couple standing. It’s sad, but it is the reality of it.

The following are two proverbs that seem to carry a lot of truth (to me at least) regarding friendship: (1) “Friends should be few but good,” Greek proverb; and (2) "The good fellow to everyone is a good friend to no one." Jewish proverb.

I would like to end this entry with a simple message…

Quality and not quantity what really matters when it comes to “friendship”.

PS: I would like to give special thanks to those that have been there for me in REAL times of need: Nedra, Anthony, Christine, Charley, I will NEVER forget what each of you have done for me. I will forever be grateful and pray that one day, I’ll be able to be there for you when you need me.

So much shit!

Moving is a pain in the ass. More importantly… it’s a pain in MY ass. Never really noticed how much SHIT I accumulated in a 7 ½ year term. I mean… I own so much stuff, my belongings have actually made the task of packing overwhelming. How did I accumulate so much crap?!?!

One thing is for sure… I will do my VERY BEST to never ever every try own as much crap as I do now. Life should be simple… clean… easy! So that’s my new rule. The simpler the room the better it looks. There’s no need to have 20,000 picture albums when there’s technology that will put all those pictures in one (or a couple) of CDs. There’s no need to hold on to video game consoles when you only have the urge to play video games once a year. There’s no need to save check stubs from 2006 when its 2010. There’s no need to have 17 tubes of lotion when you never put that shit on. From now on I will be more conscious of what I buy and WHY I’m buying it.

Mommy!!! Can I go with you??
This nightmare will NEVER happen again!
OMG I'm DONE!!!!!!!!

Resolutions

Its a new year and with it... the promise of a new start. New life. We get one more chance to right the wrongs we did in the past. Why we choose this one particular day to do so is beyond my comprehension, so I'll just blame it on tradition and on with it.

I have a couple of life changing events lined up already. I am FINALLY moving back to my lil toasty island (after 7 1/2 years of intermitent absence).

I never knew life as an adult in Puerto Rico, since I left the country right after my college graduation, so this should be interesting and very new.

Even though this is a pretty big change by itself, I have decided to make a list of the things I want to happen in 2010...

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!

Pa 'tras ni pa cogellll impulso! ;-)
